Ten questions to find the gaps in your everyday reasoning

No number sequences, no shape puzzles. Every question is a real situation: a status report, a post-mortem, an argument, a decision. And every option tells you why it's right or wrong.

What this test measures

  1. Do your conclusions hold?Whether “helps” quietly became “guarantees”: sufficient and necessary conditions, syllogisms, deduction and analogy.
  2. Do you find the real cause?Whether a post-mortem mistakes coincidence for cause, or effect for origin: correlation vs. causation, root cause, induction pitfalls.
  3. Do arguments pull you off track?Shifted definitions, straw men, slippery slopes, ad hominem, “everyone says so”: the reasons you lose arguments you should win.
  4. Does your point come through? Conclusion first or process first, and whether three sentences are enough: the Pyramid Principle, SCQA.
  5. Are your decisions boxed in?Whether only two options are left, whether means match ends, whether an incentive will backfire.

Before you start

There's a 10-minute clock, but don't race it. When you finish, read the explanation for every question to see which kind of reasoning tripped you up.
